Dr. Mordechai Sobol
Dr. Mordechai Sobol

Dr. Mordechai Sobol is a leading force in the world of Jewish liturgical music. As director of the Yuval Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, his Yuval Foundation has raised the standards of cantorial concert performance to heights seen only occasionally during the "golden years" of "Chazzanut", the first half of the century.

Ha'aretz, Israel's prominent newspaper writes, "The independent spirit of Dr. Sobol shows itself clearly in his strong and original (musical) language. He has the advantage of being a first generation Israeli, and "Israeli" music comes to him naturally, without deliberate intellectual effort. And yet, his mellismata are a return to a style which Jewish music once gave to the Western world..."

Dr. Sobol has collaborated with the most prominent soloists of Jewish Cantorial music in the world, winning critical and popular acclaim. Dr. Sobol born in Israel, as one of the outstanding students of legendary Cantor Shlomo Ravitz. He holds a doctoral degree in Jewish Music and is an active composer, conducter and orchestrator. Many of his compositions are performed by the great cantors of today. Opera-star Jan Peerce requested Dr. Sobol to write the music to the prayer "Acheinu Kol Beis Yisrael" which Peerce included in his repertoire. He is a frequent guest on radio and television, conducting the finest orchestras in the world, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. His extraordinary technical control over the orchestra have indeed made him an historic figure in the world of Chazzanut.
